Fresh Ham

  • Let Ham come to room temperature for 1-2 hours. 

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F.

  • Season the pork with salt, pepper and garlic, if it is not already seasoned.  Do not be afraid to season heavily, since this will help to create your gravy.

  • Place meat in a roasting pan in a preheated oven and begin to roast for 30 minutes to start to brown.

  • Turn the oven down to 325°F.

 

For a roast weighing 5-8 lbs., cook for 3 to 4 hours.

 

For a roast weighing 10-14 lbs., cook 4 to 5 hours. 

  • Baste roast every 30 minutes with a cup of cold broth or water.

 

Oven times will vary.  Always be sure to check internal temperature with a thermometer. 

Internal temperature should be 145°F.
